It’s been a while…

Amity Point Foreshore

Stradbroke Island ( Minjerribah) and Moreton Island ( Mulgumpin) in the distance.. two of our most favourite places ever in this world and right on our doorstep.

Hello Strangers! I kind of forgot how to blog I think, but I have given my site a little makeover and I think I would like to make it a habit to write some more and make it a bit more frequent.

So what have we been up to for the past few years? Well I think we all know what got in the way and changed most of our lives a few years ago, and I know the whole disconnection from the world as we know it did have a profound affect on me. Prior to Covid, it was nothing for us to go out to concerts, see bands, go to the movies, go out for a few meals each week and spend time wondering around the shops.

I am not sure about you, but my lifestyle completely backflipped. I no longer was interested in socialising sadly, I was petrified to leave the house for groceries some weeks, I avoided doctor’s surgeries and appointments ( still do actually 🙂 ), and became even more germ obsessed than I already was. I had been carrying Dettol or some form of antibacterial wipes in my bag for many years from around 2011 and way prior to Covid due to a pre existing health condition that meant I best avoid nasties like the Flu etc. I would disinfect shopping trolleys, petrol bowser pumps, escalator grab rails, whatever the public may have touched, I was not letting their germs near me that’s for sure..I used to get strange looks back then and now all of sudden, not only was it difficult to find a pack of wipes or spray on the supermarket shelves, along with toilet paper, canned tomatoes, dried spaghetti and plain flour, people would glare at you if you so much as “ahemmed” near them in the shops.. The world changed..everything changed. I learnt how to become a hermit actually and I realised it was OK.. I kind of liked it really.. mostly.

We came through the other side a few years later didn’t we? Eventhough this terrible virus still takes way too many lives each year, we have our freedom back here in Australia and I will never take that freedom for granted ever again. A simple walk in the sunshine, a drive to the beach for a swim in the ocean, a coffee out with a girlfriend, a Mexican dinner at our favourite restaurant with our daughter..

Speaking of which, during this time, our only child and daughter graduated from University as a Nurse and Midwife, making us super proud parents of her remarkable achievements and grades. She has now spread her wings and moved out of home and is enjoying a rural posting not too far from us, and spending good times with the other nurses and midwives when they are not working, which is not very often. I cannot begin to tell you how proud I am of our beautiful young woman. She is not only gorgeous, she is so beautiful on the inside, with a heart of gold, a kindness I have never seen from anyone else, a fierceness that I have also not seen in anyone before when it comes to right and wrong, she is just the most perfect daughter and I am the most blessed Mum on this planet… I know we all say that, but mine truly is and I am truly blessed 🙂

It’s kind of weird being empty nesters now, eventhough we do see our daughter very regularly. I suppose this is why it’s important to have a hobby, when your children are no longer that hobby. I need to find one for my husband as he is still a bit lost sometimes with her not home, when they used to go doing silly things together in the 4wd’s or fishing out the front here and just hanging together.. We have enjoyed beautiful, amazing holidays with our girl though since she has moved out of home, they seem almost even more special now and have given me a real appreciation of the time I get with her and how beautifully exquisite and precious that is. I heard a saying recently… something along the lines of that when we have our family, so begins our long goodbye.. No truer words have been spoken have they?

Anyways, I must go, I am making a chicken curry for dinner and I have to go remove the chicken from the slow cooker.. Could be a recipe post coming up soon perhaps!

Happy Easter Sunday 2023.
